New Spiritual Assembly Elected

Location

Fairfax County East
P.O. Box 1861
Annandale , VA

In this political season, it is important to remember what our elected leaders are asked to do.  Abdu'l-Baha explains their purpose:

The prime requisites for them that take counsel together are purity of motive, radiance of spirit, detachment from all else save God, attraction to His Divine Fragrances, humility and lowliness amongst His loved ones, patience and long-suffering in difficulties and servitude to His exalted Threshold. Should they be graciously aided to acquire these attributes, victory from the unseen Kingdom of Baha shall be vouchsafed to them

               (Abdu'l-Baha, Selections from the Writings of Abdu'l-Baha, p. 87)

The Spiritual Assembly is the institution which guides the local Baha'i community for the year beginning in April.  This year, the election was held on April 20.  Twenty-five voters participated this year.

The Assembly will be meeting soon to select its officers:  Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary and Recording Secretary.

The Assembly of Fairfax East guides 87 registered Baha'is and works to improve neighborhoods through spiritual means: educating children about virtues, guiding junior youth (ages 11-14) as they develop their spiritual qualities and morales, encouraging spiritual connections with God through prayer/devotional gatherings in neighborhoods.  For those who want to participate in activities of community building in our neighborhoods, we have training classes/study circles which have action components such as teaching children's classes, becoming an animator (mentor) of junior youth empowerment programs, and facilitating study circles.  Those who participate do not have to become Baha'is.
